Piku : A Beautiful Slice Of Life

Piku is a movie that deals with a father-daughter relationship, but when you dive deep, you realize it is so much more: it is about connecting to your roots; accepting, loving, and finally learning to live with people no matter how flawed they are; moreover, it’s about the journey of life.

Piku’s story is stunning. It beautifully explores the most basic bond of life – a parent, a child, a beginning and an end. It looks shyly at love. It smiles tenderly at Bengali flavours, at fish fry and digestion pills, but also at universal stories, of irritating relatives and domestics who look after us until we die. There are moments when you laugh-out-loud & there are times when your heart just melts.

The narrative wonderfully narrates the relationship of an overbearing, constipated father & his hard-working daughter. Even the part of the car-hiring company owner is so nicely written.

Piku is a cinematic rasgulla by shoojit sircar, who delivered fabulous works like October,Sardar udham,Madras cafe. The phenomenal actors like Irfan khan,Amitabh  bachchan and Deepika  Padukone plays their role beautifully and keeps audience engaged throughout the journey.

Calcutta has been portrayed in this movie in all its glory – old houses with hanging verandas, the ghats of kolkata and the beauty of the city of joy. The beauty of Piku lies not in the story but the way it is told. Piku’s story is too simple – it does not offer shocks or surprises.

Piku has always been one of my favourite movies, but now it has an even more special place in my heart as it always reminds me of Irrfan Khan and the brilliant actor that he was – its soulful songs never fail to impress. After watching this beautiful film you will be curious to walk through the streets of kolkata.
